My Current Workout Split with a Full Time Job and a Social Life

Dec 12, 2023

I love seeing people’s workout splits and how many days they train each body part.

It’s hard to fit in workouts when you have a full time job and a social life.

I like my socialization time.

Friday and Saturday nights are my social butterfly times.

I ain’t working out during those times.

I fit my workouts in mainly during the week.

& the occasional Saturday morning.

What is a workout split?

It’s basically just a fancy word for a workout schedule.

They are usually a weekly schedule and most of the time, you do the same muscle group workouts every week on certain days.

What is the most effective workout split?

The most effective workout split to hit every muscle group every week is the push/pull/leg split.

The first workout would be a push workout.

By this we mean we are using all of our “push” muscles.

Push muscles are all the muscles that we train with a pushing motion.

This is the chest, shoulders, and triceps.

The second workout would be a pull workout.

By this we mean we are using all of our “pull” muscles.

Pull muscles are all the muscles that we train with a pulling motion.

This is the back and biceps.

& the third workout would be a legs workout.

This is where we would train our legs and booty.

This is the most effective, where you will be training each body part each week while only having to workout three days a week.

What workout split should I do?

You can make your workout split any way you want.

As long as you are training all of the muscle groups (chest, shoulders, triceps, biceps, back, abs, and legs) each week, that’s all you need.

There is no right workout split.

It’s all about what works for your schedule and what keeps you moving consistently.

My Current Workout Split

My schedule is super crazy.

I work basically full time (I make my own schedule but it is very close to a 9-5 job).

I have a social life (I like hanging out with my boyfriend and going out with friends).

You see fitness influencers working out everyday, even on weekends.

However, we are trying to live our best lives.

That means we need to enjoy it when we can.

There is just no one way to create an effective workout split.

It’s okay not to workout 6-7 times a week.

Here is my workout split with a “full time job” and a social life.

→ Monday 6:30-7:30pm: Full body – cardio, legs, triceps, biceps, back, shoulders, abs

→ Tuesday 5:45-6:15 am: walk – 30 minutes, 12 incline, 3 mph

→ Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm: Full body – legs, chest, triceps, biceps, back, shoulders, abs

→ Thursday 5:45-6:15 am: walk – 30 minutes, 12 incline, 3 mph

I live for YMCA classes.

Their strength training class is the PERFECT full body workout.

You hit every muscle group in an hour.

Time efficient and they are usually scattered throughout the week so you get to pick the times you can go.

I go Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:30pm.

These are my designated gym days.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are when I wake up at 5am and go walking with my sister and best friend.

We go to the YMCA for our walks from 5:45-6:15 am and then I am home by 6:45am to get ready for work.

It’s not always the easiest to get up and do this but when you go with others it helps you stay on track.

Conclusion

Is my current workout split perfect?

HECK NO.

But it works for my schedule and it keeps me moving throughout the week.

& that’s all that matters.

Create a workout split that works for your schedule and gets you excited for your designated gym times.
